In Cantor, Australian composer Lisa Illean draws inspiration from the poetry of Willa Cather; we hear a woman’s voice, gentle but resilient, as she contemplates the land around her, contends with loneliness and finds peace in her solitude.
György Ligeti’s music is perhaps best known to the general public through the films of Stanley Kubrick (Eyes Wide Shut, 2001: A Space Odyssey) and more recently Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island. Completed in 1970, Ligeti’s Chamber Concertis considered by many to be oneof the twentieth century’s most inspiring and influential works for ensemble.
